Teaching
Many people respect Jesus as a good teacher, a prophet or a great example. The Bible says He is all of that, and much more.
Jesus is God with us. John’s Gospel opens by calling Jesus “the Word”, who was with God and was God from the beginning. Then comes the astonishing line: “The Word became flesh, and lived among us” (John 1:14). The Creator we met in Lesson 1 stepped into His own creation as a real human being.
Jesus is fully human. He was born to Mary, grew up in Nazareth, worked with His hands, got tired, wept at a friend’s grave and felt pain. He understands your life from the inside, yet He never sinned.
Jesus humbled Himself. Philippians 2 describes Him as equal with God, yet choosing to empty Himself, take the form of a servant, and obey to the point of death on a cross. Greatness, for Jesus, looked like serving.
Jesus died and rose again. Paul gives the heart of the Gospel in 1 Corinthians 15: Christ died for our sins, was buried, and was raised on the third day, then appeared to many witnesses, including more than 500 people at once. The resurrection is not a symbol; it is the event the whole Christian faith stands on.
Jesus is the way to the Father. In John 14:6 Jesus does not say He knows the way or teaches a way. He says, “I am the way.” Knowing God the Father comes through knowing Jesus personally.
That leaves each of us with the question Jesus asked His disciples: “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15). Lesson 4 looks at what He came to do for us.
Reflect
- Before this lesson, who did you think Jesus was?
- Which fact about Jesus being fully human means the most to you?
- How would you answer Jesus’ question, “Who do you say that I am?”
Respond
- Read John 1:1–14 aloud once this week.
- Ask one person in your family or Home Fellowship how they would answer “Who is Jesus?” Listen first, then share what you learned.
Pray
Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to live among us and for dying and rising again. Help me to know You as You truly are, and to follow You as the way, the truth and the life. Amen.
